I first met Don in Boston in the early 60's when we played together in salsa bands.
We became good friends because we had a common background and an affinity for rhythmic music.
Don went on to great things with everybody from Nina Simone to Miles Davis to Weather Report.
One of our more hilarious reunions was when I brought both Don and Alex Acuna on as subs in the Trini Lopez band in the mid 70's.
Like killing flies with a bazooka...—But they loved us at Magic Mountain!

Update: Don passed away in March 2006. An extraordinary loss and unreplaceable.
