I officially endorsed and purchased my Mark VI Xylosynth in 2006.

In 2006, with both me and my Musser showing signs of age, I decided to investigate electronic mallets. After extensive research, I bought this one in July 2006. A great decision. Not only does it open up a whole other world of sounds but it only weighs 28 lbs.!! I can still play vibes, plus marimba, steel pan, piano, clavinet, etc., etc., without hauling all that equipment. I love it.

Why I Play Mallets…

I started out as a drummer because that's what some of my relatives played. At about 12, I saw somebody playing a xylophone and realized that it was the ideal combination. A melodic instrument played with a drum technique. In the 8th grade I played "In The Mood" on xylophone and discovered a career. At 17, I discovered Cal Tjader, who became my teacher and good friend. At age 21, I met pianist Randy Weston.

The rest is history.

I didn't really become a professional musician as a career choice. It chose me. I just did what I had to. (The direction and dimensions of my career are documented elsewhere.) It's been up and down like a rollercoaster ride but overall I wouldn't change it. I've met and worked with some great people, seen a lot of different places and managed to make a decent living by making others happy.

Good deal all around…
