When I first arrived in California in 1970 I knew
one musician only - Cal Tjader.
I called Cal for a hookup and he introduced me to Pete Escovedo (not only
one of the great latin percussionists but father to Sheila E.)
At the time Pete had a band called THE ESCOVEDO BROTHERS with his brothers
Coke, Phil and sometimes Bobby. Along with Panamanian pianist Carlos Federico
I became an honorary Escovedo brother and thus began my lengthy California
music career.
